Thierry Dehove-Photographer
Photographer and Web designer - worldwide"Thierry Dehove is from the people who’ve had a huge influence on the path I followed in kiting after arriving in the Caribbean. I was then “taking a year off” after years of involvement in the Industry and probably wouldn’t have stuck with it if I hadn’t met inspiring characters like himself. His passion and drive were contagious… Professional photographer -holding an impressive portofolio, with some prestigious clients-, Thierry’s been very active in the kitesurfing industry for many years: amazing rider himself, he’s been in touch with the pro area for long, has earnt credit as a web developer and photographer and I owe him my most beautiful kitesurfing pictures ever. Thierry likes to call his camera his third eye, and his favourite past time is to immortalize beauty –thing he excels at-: his photos are very pure, he likes to catch moments rather than creating a scenario. Just like himself, his pictures are genuine: no arrangements, no make up, no pose, it’s all about revealing what’s already there.
He's got a subtle personality, a mix of intensity and privacy –he's a very secret character-, he likes deep conversations and is very open to the world. Having travelled his entire life, Thierry is a true citizen of the earth and is passionate about everything he does. He was among my closest friends in St Martin, and every moment I got to share with him was precious. I remember every photo shoot Thierry and I did, as well as every conversation we’ve had. Thierry lives in a world made of souls: “feeling” probably is a key word in his life. Sensitive, educated, generous and smart, it’s always been a joy to have him around and I missed him very much when he left St Martin, a short year after I got there. Thierry shared one of my most embarrassing surfing moments, one day he offered to take surfing pictures of me…. After a lame start (leash caught up in rocks, urchins in feet and so on…), the swell, up to then at a very correct “Em size”, turned out to be enormous. Too bad it only showed up once I was out: it was way too big for my surfing level, and I spent the next hour paddling towards the horizon, trying to escape the wipe out of my life. Terrified by the sets that just seem to be getting bigger and bigger, I experienced a big moment of loneliness, wondering how I’d make it back to shore. A bad day for Thierry’s camera, you might think.
Well, that’s where his skilled showed! After an hour waiting for this crazy swell to ease down, dying to make it back to land, I spotted that “tiny bitty” set. This was my only door to make it back, I tried my luck: I almost stuffed up my take off, came close to falling, but eventually did catch that very single wave of the day and made it back to safety –shaking for the following half hour…. Thierry’s magic awaited for me as a greeting: he managed somewhat to press the button at the perfect –and only- moment, on my only ride of the day. I was astouned: I have absolutely no idea how he managed to get that shot, but he did….
That’s what makes a GOOD photographer: the art of changing a big fuck up into a glory moment, lol. Do get in touch with Thierry for professional work: he’s my –and many others- reference. Em" |
