Kitesurfing cruise in St Martin

This is where it all started from and definitely our golden island in the Caribbean!

If you're wondering why Kitesurfari "Sxm", it's because this is the island's nickname, based on its IATA (airport) code. Why do people call it like that?
First because they're lazy, lol, second because of the island's double nationality and the different ways to pronounce it, in Dutch or French (St Maarten versus St Martin: even though it sounds the same in English, it doesn't in French) and rather than defining which side of the island people live on, we all call the roc "SXM", because it's international..

And may be also because somewhat, these 3 letters kind of suit it well (the initals of St Martin, which the little pirate "X" in the middle! (and if you don't get what we're meaning now, you surely will once you get there!)).

On top of this, SXM is our all time favourite because of the island lifestyle: there is just so much to do there that no wind days are never an issue. We will speak more about this further, but let's get back to the main topic: SXM kiting!

Sint Maarten/ ST Martin (see how it is annoying to spell both names each time? :) ) has an awesome variety of spots, that goes from glassy turquoise lagoons to advanced wave riding and excellent wind average!

(tip: we've NEVER had months of December and January that weren't completely cranking and all the locals can tell you about the famous "Christmas wind", that usually comes along with great swell).

During a kitesurfing cruise there, you will get to sail along the coast, ride on the surrounding islands such as Tintamarre, or in Anguilla's stunning waters and do plenty of downwinders.

Known as the ultimate partying place in the Caribbean (with more Casinos, pubs and night clubs than you could ever expect on a 25 Km long island (this place is HEAVY), St Maarten is also popular for its duty free shopping and its melting pot: over 120 different nationalities share this little island! -we love it: 120 nationalities on a 25km long stone, it's almost 5 countries per kilometre. ;)
You do not need to travel when you live in SXM because the entire world is already there.

This incredible variety of ethnics bring a "live and let live" spirit we cherish as well as a tolerance and a cultural richness that make it a very special place.

Even though, as keen sport people, we usually go to bed fairly early and are all for avoiding a hungover on a good day, we'd better warn you: you will not be able to resist SXM's party life. One can't come on this roc without eventually forgetting his name couple of times!
Why's that?
Alcohol is cheaper than water here -for real-, there are tonnes of live music bands everywhere all the time and most important, the vibe is like nowhere else... Halloween parties are insane (our big favourite!), New Year's Eve is mental and pretty much anything is an excuse to celebrate there!

Finally, on top of the great watersport potential, the fun, the cheap shopping, the melting pot, the "like nowhere else" partying, SXM has the big advantage of being very central towards other popular islands (12h sail to the BVI's towards the West, next door to Anguilla and St Barth, 12h sail towards the South East from St Kitts and Nevis, 20h from Antigua and  24h from Guadeloupe).

So many destinations one can consider when flying in SXM.
And the even better news is that it is also one of the cheapest place to fly to in the Caribbean -which is an important factor when considering a Caribbean Travel.
