How it works: the boat selection The search engine allows you to choose your vessel's type: you can decide to look only for monohulls or only for catamarans or leave this field open if you don't mind (by picking "indifferent" on the list, you will obtain results for any kind of vessel)
What is the difference between a Catamaran and a Monohull? The number of hulls, obviously, but there's more to it ! :) Monohulls or Catamarans offer particular features (both have fervent admirers, and they usually swear by one or the other) so we offer you to choose your prefereed vessel type when conducting a kitesurfing cruise search.
If you're clueless on what the differences are, here is a brief explanation. Going on a CATAKITE trip on a CATAMARAN
Catamarans are wide vessels, made very stable by two hulls, which also give them the benefit of space. Their low draft allows them to anchor in shallow areas. People having never sailed before should probably go for a catamaran, as they rock way less than monohulls and often offer larger living space on board. They're ideal for groups of 6 to 8 people (some can handle up to 10 guests) The plus? On top of all the above, boat launches (in open ocean or at a mooring) are possible for advanced riders The minus? Catamarans do not sail upwind as efficiently as monohulls -which is not a big issue during kitesurfing cruises coastal sailing-, and, being bigger boats, they're usually more expensive than monohulls. Going on a KITE TRIP on a MONOHULL Monohulls are most of sailor's favourite, as their lodging is very differently from the catamaran's way of moving, allowing true adrenalin sensations. We do warn people tending to be sea sick that monohulls might not be the best option (and we reallly want you to enjoy your kitesurfing vacation, so do not throw yourself in hell if you do know you get sea sick). Monohulls have a better upwind ability as well. They can offer comfortable room on board starting from 4 people and can also be perfectly suitable for larger groups as well (we do have monohulls that can comfortably take up to 14 guests!) The plus? Monohulls are usually cheaper vessels than catamarans and can allow small groups to find affordable kitesurfing cruises. The minus? Their keel gives them a deeper draft which sometimes reduces their mooring access in shallow waters.
