Captain Dan

captaindanmakingfriends"Let me introduce you to the biggest firecracker of Kitesurfari Sxm’s network: Captain Dan!

Captain Dan and I had been in touch for over a year before we got to meet.
“In touch” is what applies the best, I think: Dan definitely isn’t a writer –rather a Master in single worded emails- and I think our partnership would never have happened if we hadn’t eventually met.

We instantly spotted a common trait: I speak as much as I write -or the other way around- and Dan, if he really doesn’t write much, amazingly speaks as much as I do!

Dan and I first met and ended speaking for the twelve following hours.

captaindankitingWe had a lot more in common than our verbal flow though: our experiences and ways to look at things headed in the same direction, we discussed the spiritual aspects of kiting, spoke about the first equipments, about our kitesurfing cruises, drank without moderation, rebuilt the world half a dozen times and simply had a memorable time.

This has been the most FUN first introduction ever –because Dan just IS a fun personality- and I really discovered a unique character.

Olympic skiing athlete for his national team, Dan attended the kitesurfing birth in Maui in the 90’s and was among the first riders. He opened the first kiteboarding shop there, then created one of the first kitesurfing websites, to name only a few of his various involvements in the industry.
He’s a kitesurfing instructor, a helicopter pilot, a snowboarder, surfer… the list is almost endless.

If Captain Dan has a remarkable background and can tell you fantastic stories about the kitesurfing history, he’s remained totally “roots” at heart: he’s travelled the world extensively, speaks multiple languages and is a true citizen of the world.

captaindanhelmWe have the very same vision of the life style and state of mind that go along life at sea, and see kitesurfing cruises as a way to make the best of whatever is there at the very moment.

It’s not just about kitesurfing, it’s about eating local goods, fishing, surfing, diving, stand up paddling, feeling the wind (in our kites, sails and faces), and getting back to a simple life, with minimal environmental impact and real human experiences.

Captain Dan has got a communicative energy even though he’s a chilled out and mellow person.
He’s bright, settled in his mind, super adventurous and he generates about ten great ideas per minute.

danKeen sailor, he brought a catamaran in 2010 and threw himself into this new adventure with as much passion and success than everything else he had undertaken before.

Dan is a trip, he’s got a zest of craziness similar to mine and turning him from an anonymous potential work partner into a friend was the easiest thing in the world…
